The Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation (ASI) in the College of Education at Augusta University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Educational Research. While the position is intended to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor, the rank of Associate Professor may be considered for outstanding candidates.

Start Date:

The start date for this position is August 1, 2020.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include: 1) developing and teaching graduate-level introductory- and advanced courses in educational research methods, especially qualitative research methods; 2) conducting and supervising research; and 3) providing service to the college, the university, the community, and the profession. The position requires the candidate to maintain an active research agenda, including regular publications, professional presentations, and external grant submissions.  Candidates should be prepared to deliver courses online, hybrid, and face-to-face with a strong preference for candidates who are prepared to teach in all formats. With primary responsibilities focused on masters and specialist research courses, the successful candidate will also be prepared to mentor doctoral students in our Ed.D. program that explores the intersections between educational innovation and social justice. Our doctoral program uses a research team approach to the dissertation rather than individual dissertations. We are an active member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate and implementing its principles in our doctoral degree.

About the Department:

The Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation (ASI) offers the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Counselor Education (School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling), the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Advanced Educational Studies, and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Innovation with programs accredited by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities.  The department houses the research and foundations courses that serve the entire college.

ASI has recently experienced extraordinary growth in our research productivity, grant activity, and awards for teaching excellence. We have strong, collaborative relationships with school districts, community partners and national organizations such as the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). The department resides in the College of Education located on the picturesque Summerville campus.

Minimum Requirements

We invite applications from candidates with an earned doctorate in research methodology education or a related field (ABD with designated completion date acceptable). The successful candidate is expected to have begun development on a robust research agenda with the potential for developing a national and/or international reputation and will possess a research record that demonstrates potential for obtaining external research funding.

Desired Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with an expertise in qualitative research methods, identified substantive area of interest (e.g., program evaluation, educational psychology, educational policy studies), teaching experience at the graduate level, experience engaging in research in P-20 settings, interest in helping grow our Ed.D. program, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and to mentor students.

Shift/Salary

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
