Administrative-Database Specialist (Title III Funded)

Savannah State University seeks applications for Administrative-Database Specialist. This position is responsible for providing administrative and database support for the SSU COST Office of Outreach and Career Development (STEM Success Center), survey and evaluation development, assist with Activity reports, as well as collects, manages, and secures Activity and office database(s). Oversee the STEM Success supplies and equipment as well as, directing student employees and volunteers. Complete space reservations.

Reporting to the STEM 360 Activity Director (Title Ill) this position provides administrative and database support; works with other departments to ensure sufficient resources, including but not limited to space reservations, scheduling and university events; coordinates scheduling and oversees student workers to ensure efficiency and completion of assignments. This position requires attendance at Activity events on evenings and weekends. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will:

•Greet and assist visitors; screen and route calls; serve as office manager

•Process correspondence, maintain confidential and administrative files

•Ensure processes and procedures for orderly office operations

•Prepare letters, memoranda, reports, presentations and materials; proofread for accuracy

•Maintain departmental calendar, coordinate staff meetings and schedules

•Make travel arrangements, process travel requisitions

•Maintain central filing system and office procedures for quick retrieval of information

•Handle confidential matters and material with appropriate discretion

•Assist with preparation of reports (research and data)

•Process purchase requisitions, check requests, and contracts to ensure timely payment

•Order and maintain inventory of supplies; review invoices to ensure accuracy of service and goods

•Ensure budget related documents meet deadlines and are in compliance with guidelines

•Track progress on special projects and events for timely completion

•Work with other departments to obtain adequate resources to execute duties.

•Supervise student employees, coordinate interviews and related documents for the student employees

•Create ways to store, organize, and present data.

•Administer a variety of database systems including Microsoft SQL Server, Filemaker Pro, and others.

•Maintain and administer Web server and middleware tools.

•Set up new computer databases.

•Integrate old systems data with new system

•Assume the technical lead for SQL Server and online database projects.

•Create high-level reporting systems.

•Audit, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands, hand-editing, and bulk import.

•Troubleshoot and correct issues as they arise.

•Ensure system is running smoothly.

•Enhance or build database designs.

Minimum Qualifications              

Bachelor’s degree required. Tech savvy and adequate knowledge of database query languages like Oracle, PL SQL, SQL Server, and MS Access. Must have expertise in RDBMS (Relational Database Management Systems). Apart from these database languages having capability to work on various operating systems and some other programming languages is also essential for the database administrators. Social Media awareness and Excellent communication, organizational, writing and customer skills required. Working knowledge of state and university policies and procedures is essential. Background and/or credit check may be required.

Preferred Qualifications              

Three (3) years of related work experience preferred.
