As an active member of the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Admissions and Housing team, the Director of University Housing is responsible for leading the Department of Housing's residential program serving residents in a traditional suite and apartment-style residence halls. Develops and guides strategic planning initiatives for residence life as well as short-term goal setting and implementation of organizational priorities that complement the mission of Georgia State University. As a campus collaborator, promotes a vision that prioritizes and advances inclusivity and multicultural practice supporting students and staff of all identities. The Director oversees student development programs that enhance the live-on experiences for residents who choose to reside on-campus.

  • Provides leadership, supervision, direction, and support to all personnel within University Housing. Serves as the lead in planning, development, design, and construction of new housing facilities. Develops and manages the operating budget. Provides overall operational planning and facilities management for square footage, including capital projects, renovations and reserves, and contracts for services.
  • Serves as the liaison for the University with the Corvias Corporation, the Board of Regents' partner, in developing new construction projects for Housing. Develops residential programs, policies, and operating procedures for the department and for Greek Housing. Oversees the residential facilities to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment; confirms that all room assignments and billings are completed and communicated to students.
  • Establishes relationships and serves as liaison with Auxiliary Services, University Police, Admissions, Budget and Planning, Student Accounts, Counseling Center, New Student Programs, Financial Aid, IIT (Information Technology), Dean of Students, and other departments as appropriate.
  • Interprets and enforces University System of Georgia, Georgia State University and Housing regulations, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office. Leads the development and implementation of policies pertaining to the operation and management of the residence halls.
  • Represents the Department of Housing and Residence Life both on and off-campus. Responds to resident, parent, faculty, staff and other stakeholder concerns in a timely fashion. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in a collaborative centralized judicial/student discipline process with the Office of the Dean of Students for students living in university housing. Ensures the security and safety of students; responsible for crisis and risk management.
  • Researches, secures, and manages additional revenue contracts in housing facilities, e.g., vending, on site visiting parking meters, dining halls, Commons Retail Mart.
  • Directs the departmental assessment efforts, including semester resident satisfaction and yearly staff satisfaction surveys. Analyzes statistical data to develop comprehensive learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness plans. Directs staff in the development of goals, objectives, and timelines that match the institutional and divisional goals as outlined in the University's strategic plan.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten years of progressive experience in on-campus housing
  • Previously demonstrated leadership skills with an emphasis on staff supervision and development, particularly during a time of organizational transition; strategic thinker.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel. Experience with property management software, work order systems and inventory systems
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, interpersonal, decision-making, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate and interface professionally and sensitively to staff, board, residents, and public.
  • Experience working with diverse groups, i.e., staff, residents, outside contractors.
