Position functions as a Dispatcher Communications Officer and Security officer, depending on the needs of the department.  

Training and Experience:

INTERNAL EMPLOYEES WHO MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required. Must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and prepare records. Experience with a law enforcement or public safety agency helpful. Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license.  

Testing Requirements:

Must be able to obtain GCIC certification within six months of hire date.  

Illustrative Examples of Work:

Receives complaints by telephone and in person. Dispatches messages to radio car patrolman. Dispatches police cars to various scenes of crime, disturbances, and emergencies. Tests the transmitter. Makes reports of all messages transmitted and tests made. Receives incoming university information calls after 5:00 p.m. when the University switchboard closes. Must have the ability to monitor campus activity on the police surveillance system. Must have excellent customer service skills. Must have good oral skills. Will be required to train, learn and be able to operate the Black Board emergency notification system. Performs other job-related duties as required.

As a Security Officer you will be required to patrol the campus on foot, golf cart or in a patrol unit to maintain campus safety. Required to answer calls for service involving parking, fire, traffic and maybe first on scene for potential crimes.

Will be required to work special events such as basketball games, football games and other campus related events.
