The Department of Teacher Education has undergraduate and graduate programs in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education, and Secondary Education. The primary function of the department to prepare teacher candidates to teaching in P-12 school settings and to enhance the knowledge and skills of practicing teachers through enrollment in our advanced programs.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position will support undergraduate and graduate teacher education candidates as well
as teachers seeking Special Education certification and Special Education professionals seeking advanced knowledge and skills.

Teaching Responsibilities
- Regular course meetings and instruction as defined in the position description
- Mentoring students
- Ability to contribute to the core curriculum.

Faculty responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in Special Education, engagement in scholarly activities, and service to the program, department, university, profession, and community.

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate level (M.Ed., Ed.S, Ed.D) courses in Special Education, faculty members mentor students, supervise field experiences, contribute to the core curriculum and program curriculum, and teach core courses including but not limited to GC1Y and GC2Y.

Minimum Requirements

Proposed Minimum Experience/Education

- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or related field. ABD’s will be considered only if terminal degree is completed within 10 months of hire date.
- Minimum three years successful teaching in P-12 Special Education classroom.
- Minimum 18 Graduate Semester hours or equivalent in the academic discipline being taught.
- Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.

Department Required Skills

The successful candidate will be assigned teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and/ or graduate levels. The position requires teaching and support of local education agencies primarily in the areas of Special Education. We also value research collaboration with undergraduates and graduate students. An active scholarship program is required along with campus and community service.

List any other requirements

Advise and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in Special Education programs, collect program data in LiveText for university, state, and national compliance, and facilitate program recruitment. Experience with edTPA is preferred.



Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

- Experience in administering and/or interpreting standardized assessments, curriculum-based measurements, and other formative assessments
- Experience with edTPA instrument and in delivering instruction in edTPA
· Experience with quantitative research methods and analysis
· Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.
· Experience with online instruction
Experience with educational assessment (e.g., CAEP – Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation)
· Experience with LiveText and/or Georgia View (D2L)
· Higher Education experience
· Experience in college-based outreach to local school systems
- Experience in district-level administration of Special Education or PBIS
