Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a Unit of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music position to support its innovative BA in Contemporary Musicianship. The recently modified Music program includes tracks in Performance (Classical or Commercial) and the Music Industry. The BA in Contemporary Musicianship is housed in MGA’s new School of Arts & Letters, which also has degree programs in Applied Art & Design, New Media & Communication, English, History, Modern Language, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The position involves teaching a 4/4 course load (to include applied studio), scholarship, student advisement, and service. Travel among our campuses is expected. Teaching responsibilities may include day and/or evening classes, online and/or hybrid courses, and video-conference classes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Doctorate in Music is required for the Assistant Professor line; candidates holding the Masters in Music may be considered for hire at the Lecturer level.

• Ability to teach a variety of courses in academic area of expertise.
• Interest in and commitment to supporting a young and innovative music program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Significant creative practice and teaching experience in non-classical forms such as gospel, jazz, or diverse commercial genres.
• Ability to support development of the Music Industry curriculum.
• Ability to teach courses in diverse areas such as Music Recording, Music Entrepreneurship, the Entertainment Industry, or Arts Nonprofit Management.
