Working Title Retention Coordinator
Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Retention Coordinator. This position provides academic support and coaching, mentoring, advising, and counseling for students from first generation, low-income, and disability backgrounds. Provides wraparound student support services for first year, continuing and transfer students in the following categories: college transition assistance, academic success strategies, financial education, career and leadership development, graduate school preparation, connection and community support. Uses a holistic approach to serving students throughout their entire SSU journey and promotes retention and graduation. Provides proactive strategic outreach to students that may need additional support, conducts weekly progress discussion forums for students and provides intentional outreach to students facing academic difficulty by getting them connected to academic resources facilitated by the student’s college/department, or meeting with the student regularly. Provides appropriate referrals to university resources. Work includes some nights and weekends. May be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree is required and at least 5 years related experience in higher education, student support. Masters in student services, higher education, or curriculum area preferred. Proficient in working with a complex student information system, information technology, and data analysis. Demonstrated knowledge of higher education student services. Demonstrated ability to interact in a diverse, multicultural community of educators and learners; ability to prioritize multiple, competing tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced team environment Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues. Skilled in examining and reengineering operations and procedures and developing new strategies and procedures. Demonstrated organization skills and ability to engage successfully with students. Superior oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in developing data-driven strategies A can-do, team-oriented, student-first mentality. Flexibility to be available when students need support (evenings and some weekends) Willingness to work in a fast-paced, non-traditional, highly collaborative work environment Preferred Qualifications USG Transfer Requirements. Background and/or credit check may be required.
