Position Summary

The Center for Vaccines and Immunology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia seeks an outstanding researcher in immunology for a tenure-track or tenured Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position. Applicants should have a track record of independent research, with interests focused on innate or adaptive immunology. The newly formed Center ( seeks to complement existing strengths by recruiting faculty whose interests include viral and bacterial disease models for vaccine and pathological assessment as a central component of his/her research program. The faculty candidate will be responsible for establishing and overseeing an extramurally-funded research program in one of the following research areas: immune mechanisms of vaccines, molecular and cellular mechanisms of the immunological host response, and host-pathogen immune interactions. Successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in a rich interdisciplinary and collegial environment provided by the campus-wide Faculty of Infectious Diseases (, the Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases (, and the Biomedical Health Sciences Institute ( In addition, collaborative opportunities for basic and translational research with outstanding immunology and vaccine assessment programs will be strongly encouraged. Additional Requirements

All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, molecular biology, vaccines, or related field from an accredited university; D.V.M; M.D; or equivalent terminal degree at the time of appointment.

To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

A successful candidate for the rank of Assistant Professor should:
Show promise of moving towards excellence in conducting research by showing evidence of a potential for publishing in top tier journals in the discipline as well as potential for crafting competitive funding proposals to support research in the discipline.

A successful candidate for the rank of Associate Professor should have:
Publications in top tier journals in the discipline. 
Served as Primary Investigator or Co-Primary Investigator on at least one competitive grant in past three years. 
Received early-career recognition for outstanding scholarship, teaching or service from college or university.
Served as a graduate committee advisor and evidence of successful graduate student mentoring ability.
