About the College/Unit/Department

The Division of Academic Enhancement (DAE) is a unit of the Office of Instruction (OVPI) whose central mission is to provide campus-wide leadership, collaboration, and support on matters related to instruction. Housed within the DAE, the Intensive English Program (IEP) is an EAP program whose mission is to offer a rigorous, supportive, and student-centered English language program that will help students to develop the English language proficiency and the cultural competence they need to enter and succeed in American universities.

Position Summary

The University of Georgia (UGA) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and creative faculty member to serve as an Instructor in the Intensive English Program (IEP), part of the Division of Academic Enhancement (DAE).

Serving as an Instructor, this 100% instructional position requires teaching a maximum of 18 hours a week within the IEPin each 8-week session, two sessions in fall and two in spring. The candidate chosen must also be available to teach in June and July 2019. As needs dictate, the load may be decreased to allow for alternative instructional duties, The Instructor will also collaborate closely with fellow faculty as well as the Director of the IEP and of the DAE in the innovation of the curricula and across relevant DAE services, programs, and initiatives. Purposeful integration within programming beyond the IEP curricula will enhance the experiences and overall success of UGA’s students served by the DAE as well as create synergy among faculty and staff of the Division.

Additional Requirements

A master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or a closely related field is required. 
At least two years of experience in teaching ESL learners, especially in college settings, either in the United Sates or overseas.
Evidence of an ability to work in a transdisciplinary department and curriculum.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Ability to speak an additional language or languages beyond English.
Expertise in developing placement tests and achievement tests (and rubrics) in grammar, reading writing, listening, and/or speaking.
Background in advising students who are studying English in preparation to enter undergraduate or graduate degree programs.
Background in helping EAP students prepare for graduate school (for example, experience teaching a graduate level writing course).
Background in teaching in a DEA accredited program.
Ability to write goals objectives and SLO’s for a CEA accredited program.
Prior success designing and developing new curricula and/or co-curricular programs.
Extensive knowledge of student learning outcomes and program evaluation.
Evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative atmosphere.
Understanding of applied linguistics or language education as well.
