Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Animal Science or closely related field with emphasis in beef cattle. A thorough understanding of the U.S. beef cattle industry and current beef cattle practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The successful candidate must
demonstrate that she/he can conduct a relevant beef extension program. The ability to
publish in extension, scientific and trade publications and the ability to secure extramural
funding are expected. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to
obtain a driver’s by the employment start date.

Position Summary

The appointment will be a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position in the Animal and Dairy Science Department, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Athens Campus. The individual is expected to develop and provide leadership for a relevant nationally/internationally recognized beef cattle extension program emphasizing in, but not limited to, the areas of reproductive physiology, quantitative genetics, or beef production management. Extension activities include interaction with county agents and other scientists in developing a state-of-the-art information/technology transfer program for the Georgia Beef industry. The position will direct the Georgia Beef Challenge program. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course in beef cattle management, with the potential to develop additional courses in their respective field. Teaching via distance education is an option.

Additional Requirements

PhD in Animal Science or closely related field.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Specialized experience in reproductive physiology, quantitative genetics, or beef
production management or related specialty highly preferred. An understanding of and
experience in different segments of the beef industry is strongly preferred. Rank of

The candidate should have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date in order to conduct on-farm visits, and Extension presentations throughout Georgia.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

A thorough understanding of the U.S. beef cattle industry and current beef cattle practices, and familiarity in the areas of reproduction, genetics/breeding, and management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate that she/he can conduct a relevant beef extension program. The ability to publish in extension, scientific, and trade publications and the ability to secure extramural funding are expected.
