About the Department                       

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College is committed to preparing students for careers in these critically important arenas.

Position Description                         

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and review of related undergraduate curricula, assist with program assessment activities, and maintain office hours for student advisement.

Tenure-track positions are academic year (August-May) appointments. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing 27-32 semester hours of instruction per academic year
  • Providing student support and advising
  • Maintaining at least 10 office hours per week
  • Working effectively and professionally with colleagues

Expectations also include service to the college at the department, discipline, campus and college-wide levels. Perimeter College encourages and supports innovation and professional growth, expecting the successful candidate to demonstrate career goals that are consistent with the college’s mission.

Required Experience:  Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology and proficiency in a least one programming language is required.

Required Education:  A minimum of a Master’s degree required in the teaching discipline or a minimum of a Master’s degree with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter graduate hours in relevant coursework (completed by the anticipated date of appointment) is required.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience   Courses are currently taught using the Java computer-programming language and demonstrated knowledge is preferred.

Preference will also be given to candidates who possess:

  • Previous college-level teaching experience.
  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline.

  • Ability to teach a variety of computer science courses at the college-level.
  • Ability and desire to teach effectively using a variety of methods.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse student population and facilitate student learning.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
