Job Summary

This part time Biology Faculty position reports to the Department Chair of Science, in the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Health Professions.  The Division offers a B.S. in Biological Science which emphasizes cellular and molecular biology as well as biotechnology and medical technology. In addition, the Division strives to impart to its student’s data analysis and contemporary laboratory skills. Applicants must have a history of effective teaching at the collegiate level and possess knowledge of educational technologies (e.g., Web-based and-or totally online instruction). Experience using Brightspace (D2L) Course Management System is a plus.  The position also requires the incumbent to assist undergraduate students with research projects. Courses may be scheduled during the morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend.  The part time Biology faculty member should be prepared to teach Biology lecture and laboratory courses for majors and non-majors. The ideal candidate should have experience teaching anatomy and physiology and/or microbiology lectures and labs.


  • Tracks students’ work and assignments for faculty.
  • Exercises proper procedures, answer questions, and documents and attempts to resolve repetitive problems.
  • Creates lab packets and templates.
  • Oversees inventory of lab supplies and submits documentation on needed items to personnel in charge of purchasing supplies.
  • Maintains lab equipment by cleaning lab equipment.
  • Observes lab occupants upon entering and leaving the lab to secure lab equipment.
  • Assists students with troubleshooting in labs.
  • Replaces solutions and equipment as directed.
  • Replenishes supplies and oversees all other lab equipment.
  • Keeps labs and equipment clean and enforces all rules concerning the use of labs.
  • Maintains a comfortable and safe working environment for lab users.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned.
  • Be familiar with the regulatory requirements specific to the lab and ensures all users are incompliance with those standards.
  • Review research protocols of internal and external research groups in an effort to stay abreast as to what research projects are occurring in the lab at any given time.
  • Update and maintain the Lab Safety Plan/Manual and the SDS Manual.
  • Accompany the EHS Manager during Lab Inspections.
  • Oversees laboratory safety and ensures that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. In cases where non-compliance is found, documents the instances as well as how they were abated.
  • Ensures all reagents and supplies are available when needed.
  • Manages and updates Chemical inventories and/or Risk Group Agent inventories.
  • Communicates and enforces laboratory safety rules to internal and external researchers working in the lab.
  • Ensures all users of the lab are wearing the appropriate PPE.
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Dean. 

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree is required with a minimum of eighteen graduate semester hours in upper level biology or closely-related courses (e.g.; Anatomy and Physiology, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and/or Microbiology) from a regionally accredited institution.  Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching microbiology and/or cellular/molecular laboratory courses at the collegiate level.
