Research Engineer II
Job Description:

The Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL) is seeking a Propulsion Systems engineer with a strong background in Aero/Fluid dynamics system design and analysis for advanced aircraft and gas turbine component. This includes the modeling and assessment of advanced aerodynamic technologies in industry standard software suites like NPSS and ANSYS.

As part of his or her responsibilities, the applicant is expected to conduct, lead, and publish research involving the design of advanced Aero/Fluid dynamics system design and analysis for advanced aircraft and gas turbine engine concepts and aerodynamic technologies. Candidate must have at least 4 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics and parametric gas turbine engine modeling. Parametric gas turbine engine modeling experience using software like (NNEP, and NPSS) is expected. Experience in using and developing integrated aerodynamic design environments (either from in-house developed software/tools, industry-standard tools, or a combination of both) is desired.

In addition, a minimum of 2-year experience in conducting/leading gas turbine engine test data analyses utilizing state of the art techniques is required.  Ability and experience in developing scripts (in Matlab, C++, NPSS and/or FORTRAN) for interface and analysis purposes is also desired.  Additional skill sets of the applicant should include, experience with conjugate heat transfer analysis on gas turbine engine components, and familiarization with gas turbine engine design processes including technology and manufacturing readiness levels.

The applicant will be responsible for managing and coordinating projects. This includes coordinating all communication with sponsors, meeting deadlines and schedule milestones, writing proposals, and supervising integrated teams composed of graduate/undergraduate students and professionals. Hence, excellent written and oral communication skills are a requirement.
