The Georgia Tech Biomedical Engineering Department’s RED (REvolutionizing engineering and computer science Departments) Project is seeking to fill one full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position with a focus on the design and implementation of inclusive instructional practices across an engineering curriculum.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the development of a research program to improve our understanding of how inclusive educational activities impact student learning, faculty development, and participants’ perspectives on the role of diversity and inclusion in engineering practice, as well as examine how instructional design teams generate novel learning interventions that are sustainably integrated into a curriculum. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop and evaluate educational components for faculty and students, and to attend and participate in related conferences and workshops. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses will be conducted.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with the project co-PIs: Dr. Julie Ancis, Dr. Wendy Newstetter, and Dr. Joe Le Doux.

Date: Start Date Negotiable (February 2018 – July 2018)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct research projects autonomously while working collaboratively with the Co-PIs and project staff.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Help develop and evaluate education and training modules.
  • Conduct literature reviews, present briefs, and organize resources.
  • Participate in project related meetings as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Knowledge and Skill Qualifications:

Applications are welcome from recipients of a PhD in education, educational psychology, cognitive psychology, counseling psychology, social psychology, organizational psychology, clinical psychology, sociology, engineering or STEM-related education, or a related field. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative analysis, with prior experience in the use of quantitative research methods. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in designing and/or implementing teaching and learning interventions in higher education, particularly if these experiences involved inclusive teaching practices and/or a focus on diversity and inclusion in engineering education.

Stipend Information:

The position carries a yearly stipend of $50,000. In addition to stipend, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be provided with funding for reasonable and relevant research expenses.
