The School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a Tenure Track, Assistant Professor of English/Composition and Rhetoric position within the Department of Arts and Humanities. This appointment is expected to begin August 1, 2018. This position is an academic year (10 month) appointment.

Essential Duties

The ideal candidate will have full-time experience teaching English composition and rhetoric at the college level. Initial responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours of first-year composition courses, Learning Support/co-requisite English courses, and upper-level composition and rhetoric courses in both fall and spring semesters; summer teaching opportunities are based on student enrollment. The candidate must work cooperatively with others and be willing to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online classes at the Brunswick campus and/or the Camden location as needed. While demonstrating excellence in teaching, the candidate will contribute to departmental and college committees, advise students, and demonstrate a commitment to scholarship and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

  • Ph.D. in English with a specialization in Composition and Rhetoric from a regionally accredited institution must be completed by July 1, 2018.
  • Commitment to serving diverse student populations in a collegiate setting
  • 1 year Full-time or Part time experience in teaching English composition and rhetoric at the college level
  • Computer literacy, including experience using technology effectively in the classroom
  • Commitment to using high-impact teaching strategies such as First-Year Experiences, Common Intellectual Experiences, Learning Communities, Writing-Intensive Courses, Collaborative Assignments and Projects, Undergraduate Research, Diversity/Global Learning, Service-Learning, Community-Based Learning, Internships, and/or Capstone Courses and Projects

Preferred Qualifications and Training

  • Secondary expertise in digital rhetoric, professional and technical writing, composition pedagogy, archival research, cultural rhetorics, and/or civic engagement
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience in teaching developmental/Learning Support/co-requisite English
