Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Accountant III performs subsidiary ledger to general ledger reconciliations, verifies and posts a variety of financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University System of Georgia (USG) policies and procedures. The Accountant III compiles and analyzes complex financial data to ensure the development of accurate and consistent financial and operating reports. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

Essential Duties: 
1. Prepare subsidiary ledger to general ledger reconciliations. 
2. Compile and verify the accuracy and validity of complex accounting transactions, often requiring in-depth analysis and resolution. 
3. Compile and analyze data to prepare entries to general ledger. 
4. Analyze financial information for accuracy in processing month-end closing. 
5. Review monthly reports and make adjusting journal entries as needed. 
6. Review posting of transactions to appropriate accounts. 
7. Maintain financial records, including general accounting activities. 
8. Assist in the preparation of the Annual Financial Report. 
9. May participate in asset management, construction or facilities related projects, including depreciation and reconciliation of fixed assets. 
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:   Education, Experience, and Licenses
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business, or finance, and a minimum of three years of demonstrated related job experience.

  • Knowledge and experience in PeopleSoft, fund accounting, and University System of Georgia or higher education accounting and financial reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple tasks to meet deadlines. 
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of discretion and confidentiality. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and handle concurrent multiple priorities.
