Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Victim Service Coordinator provides survivor-centered support services to victim-survivors of power-based interpersonal violence (sexual assault, stalking, dating and domestic violence), as well as their significant others and allies, to respond to the immediate emotional and physical needs of victim-survivors and assist with managing practical problems created by the victimization.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Victim Service Coordinator provides survivor-centered support services to victim-survivors of power-based interpersonal violence (sexual assault, stalking, dating and domestic violence), as well as their significant others and allies, to respond to the immediate emotional and physical needs of victim-survivors and assist with managing practical problems created by the victimization. The Victim Service Coordinator will serve as part of the Project BRAVE team.

Under the supervision of the Women’s Center Director, the Victim Service Coordinator will provide crisis counseling and advocacy for campus victim-survivors of sexual assault, stalking, dating and domestic violence by working with campus and community partners, including Campus Police, Student Affairs, Title IX, Housing, Counseling Services, Milledgeville Police Department, Oconee Regional Medical Center, Baldwin County Solicitor General, and Baldwin County District Attorney.

The Victim Service Coordinator will assist Women’s Center and Project BRAVE staff with developing and providing outreach and training to the campus community, help publicize the advocacy services offered on campus and in the community, coordinate volunteer advocacy services, and assist with data collection and other administrative tasks.

Job duties performed for the above function

Provides direct services to victim-survivors in response to reported incidents; provides crisis intervention, support, advocacy, resource-referral, and accompaniment in a non-judgmental manner, maintaining confidentiality. This position is included in the after-hours on-call rotation.

Provides advocacy support and referrals for the victim-survivor’s friends and family in order to support efforts towards recovery. Assist student to understand all medical (e.g. hospital, SANE exam), legal (e.g. obtaining a protective order, participating in a criminal case), safety (i.e. University-issued No Contact Notice), campus (e.g. Title IX investigation and conduct process), and mental health options and resources; support student throughout process; and provide accompaniment to and support for student all processes and resources accessed.

Provides assistance to victim-survivors working with various campus entities to provide campus-based services, serving as an advocate in the student conduct process, various campus offices including the Office of Student Affairs, GC Public Safety, Office of Legal Affairs, Title IX, and Counseling Services.

The Victim Service Coordinator also works on behalf of the victim-survivor’s interests in the court system, the prosecutorial system, medical care, and other community partners.

Develop, coordinate and continually assess safety plan for student victim-survivor.

Maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.

Ensure advocacy and crisis intervention services are culturally inclusive and sensitive to the needs of marginalized populations.

Coordinates 24/7 response to incidents of violence, including the development of a volunteer advocate program and hotline.

Coordinates trainings for volunteer advocate program

Coordinates a victim-survivor support group in conjunction with Counseling Services.

Assists with the development and delivery of workshops and training programs to educate various campus populations on the services offered by advocates.

Develops and maintains relationships with local community-based organizations to assist with advocacy and referral efforts.

Maintains confidential case files so that statistics and trends can be determined and reported.

Assists with grant program data collection and administration.

Uses reporting data to improve advocacy efforts and outreach services.

Supervises volunteer advocates; may supervise student interns or volunteers.

Minimum Requirements
Proposed Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field. OR, High School Diploma with at least 2 years full-time professional job experience preferably on a college campus

Department Required Skills

Individual needs to have completed Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) of Georgia Victim Advocacy Training within 2 months of hire if not already complete.
