General Summary:

The Lewis F. Rogers Institute for Environmental and Spatial Analysis (IESA) at the University of North Georgia (UNG) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Geospatial Science & Computing. Appointments are set to begin August 2018.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Faculty members typically teach 12 hours per semester (undergraduate), including a combination of service courses and upper level offerings.
  • The faculty member is expected to engage in professional development and scholarly pursuits and involve undergraduate students in these endeavors.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and will be responsible for teaching undergraduate geographic information science and computing courses housed in the Lewis F. Rogers Institute for Environmental & Spatial Analysis at the University of North Georgia.
  • In addition, the faculty member is expected to contribute to the Institute, University, and the discipline through appropriate service obligations and in the advising of students.
  • Scholarly work involving undergraduates, advising students, service to the university and community, active participation in institute activities, maintaining a collegial work environment and professional development are expected.    
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:

Applicants are required to have a PhD in Geospatial Science, Geography, Computer Science, Information Science or a closely related field. Further, the successful candidate should have expertise in several of the following areas:

  • Geospatial Science and Technology
  • Application Development using Python and/or Javascript- (required)
  • Geospatial Web Application Development 
  • Enterprise GIS
  • Digital Image Processing
  • Geographic Relational Database Design
  • Spatial Informatics
  • Geovisualization
  • Geospatial Statistics/Quantitative Analysis

Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach geoscience, computer science, environmental studies, engineering or other related fields.

Excellence in teaching, scholarly activity and university/community service is required for promotion and tenure.
