General Summary:
 

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor supports UNG students who are transitioning from the associate to baccalaureate degree level. Responsibilities also include advising students who are transferring in under 30 credit hours and other special population students individually and in groups regarding general education and major requirements, UNG academic policies and procedures, and the transition process. The advisor acts as a liaison with faculty and appropriate University departments to facilitate communication and insure consistent advisement and guidance for transitioning students. The advisor is responsible for assisting with advance scheduling of freshmen on select campuses. The advisor reports directly to the Coordinator of Transfer and Transition and is responsible for assisting the Coordinator with the development, delivery, and assessment of comprehensive student advisement and success programs for transition and other special population students, including workshops and student orientation programs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
 

This position will:

  • Advise students interested in transitioning from the associate to baccalaureate degree level.
  • Advise transfer students under 30 hours.
  • Insure appropriate paperwork is submitted for transition.
  • Help prepare transition student data through reports.
  • Assist with advance scheduling of freshmen on select campuses.
  • Assist with the development, delivery, and assessment of student success programs, including workshops and orientations.
  • Act as a liaison with faculty and appropriate departments to facilitate communication and ensure consistent advisement and guidance for transitioning students.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a strong background as a team player.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize duties.
  • Must demonstrate a strong background in working with diversity. 
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • One year experience in professional advising or closely related field. 
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Office required.
  • BANNER experience preferred.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain exemplary working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
