Job Summary/Basic Function:
 
Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for a Mathematics tutor for the 2017-2018 Upward Bound academic program. Upward Bound is one of six Federal TRiO Programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds, supplementing their existing education and preparing them for academic success at all educational levels. The Thomaston Upward Bound Program at Atlanta Metropolitan State College currently serves 58 high school students at Upson Lee High School, which is located about an hour south of downtown Atlanta. The Academic Tutorial Program will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Upson Lee High School in Thomaston, Georgia. 
 

This is a temporary part-time non-exempt position that reports to the Upward Bound Thomaston Director. Applicants will provide individual and small group tutoring to students in the Tutorial Center. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills. Other assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems. Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching. 

Minimum Qualifications:
 
An A.A. or A.S. in Science or a Bachelor's Degree with 15 semester hours of college level credit in Science or related field is required. The applicant must possess the ability to work with diverse and undeserved students.  
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
A Master's Degree in Science is strongly preferred. Tutoring and teaching experience at the high school level is also preferred.

Advertised Salary and Benefits:
 
The salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience, $15 - $20 per hour up to 12 hours per week. There are no benefits associated with this position.
