Founded in 2005, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is the 31st member of the University System of Georgia. Description:
 
In consultation with the Director of New Student Connections, the Assistant Director is responsible for planning, preparation, and implementation of various new student programs and events. Assists in designing curricular components for departmental programs to meet new student learning objectives (also includes student assistants); uses innovative educational technology to enhance student learning (for both student assistants and new students).
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Works collaboratively with staff, faculty, STS units, and other departments and divisions across campus in the planning, scheduling, preparation, facilitation and implementation of programs, events and trainings
  • Reports regularly to the Director on various program needs and developments; handles questions/complaints related to designated programs, directing these to the Director as needed
  • Communicates regularly with other New Student Connections staff, including students, concerning department and event activities and concerns
  • Assists in managing the operational budget for new student orientations and other programs
  • Assists in designing curricular components for departmental programs to meet new student learning objectives (also includes student assistants); uses innovative educational technology to enhance student learning (for both student assistants and new students)
  • Regularly assists with and conducts assessment for various programs of the office of New Student Connections; assists with data compilation, analysis, and reports
  • Represents New Student Connections, the Director, and STS in college-wide meetings and initiatives as needed. Acts on behalf of the department in the absence of the Director
  • In consultation with the Director, responsible for the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and supervision of student assistants including responsibility for training program design and evaluation
  • Maintains accurate and adequate records related to events, student personnel, finances, etc.; understands and is compliant with FERPA
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Salary
 
Salary commensurate with experience and education.
 
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years full time professional experience working with student assistants; student advising skills
  • Knowledge of student development theories and practice
  • Basic knowledge of programmatic assessment
  • Experience in managing program expenditures and operational budget; understanding of
    student fee budgets
  • Experience with event planning and execution
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus.
