Postdoctoral Fellow in Minimally-Invasive Cardiovascular Imaging Technologies


 A position for a postdoctoral researcher is available in the Ultrasonic Imaging and Instrumentation Laboratory in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University in Atlanta.  We are excited to develop new, transformative technologies for interventional imaging and guidance in cardiovascular diseases and seek a creative, enthusiastic researcher to join our team.  Candidates from diverse technical backgrounds who are interested in building a career in diagnostic or interventional imaging are encouraged to apply.

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Communicate and work independently and effectively with collaborators across the Georgia Tech College of Engineering and Emory School of Medicine
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects involving transducers, device fabrication, ultrasound systems/signal processing, experimental design, and data analysis
  • Conduct original research in the described areas of instrumentation and imaging as well as work independently on the fellow’s own ideas
  • Write manuscripts and present at conferences
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Skills:
    • Collaborative attitude and willingness to work in an inter-disciplinary environment
    • Outstanding background in electrical signals and systems
    • Strong record of publications in leading international journals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in design and fabrication of piezoelectric transducers or microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).
  • Experience in ultrasound or acoustics.

Additional Information:

The Ultrasonic Imaging and Instrumentation Lab conducts novel research in the development of devices and techniques for functional imaging for diagnosis, intervention, and image-guided therapy.  Located on the Georgia Tech campus, our home department is Biomedical Engineering; we are also part of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Georgia Center for Medical Robotics.  We have full access to the Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology, a three building, 225,000-square-foot, full-service facility for micro- and nano-fabrication.  As part of the Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience, we also have access to 15 core facilities with expertise and equipment for biological procedures and measurements, including dedicated suites for animal imaging, animal procedures, and histology.  

The Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University is currently ranked as the #1 undergraduate and #3 graduate program in biomedical engineering in the United States (U.S. News).  Georgia Tech engineering is ranked #4 in the U.S. and the #10 in the world (U.S. News).
