Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Applied Trumpet


Be part of the growing School of Music faculty at Georgia State University, an enterprising R-1 university in Atlanta. Our next Assistant Professor in Applied Trumpet will play a central role in the School of Music’s contributions to Georgia State’s strategic goals of highlighting the arts and media. The university views these as vital to the quality of all major cities and to demonstrating that students from all backgrounds can achieve academic and career success at high rates. Our faculty take advantage of the Rialto Center for the Arts, the Florence Kopleff Recital Hall, large rehearsal spaces in the Helen M. Aderhold Learning Center, Pullen Library and classrooms in the Standard and Hass-Howell Buildings for their research and for mentoring students. Faculty and students also benefit from Atlanta’s rich cultural arts groups including the world-renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, the Atlanta Ballet, the High Museum of Art, and a wealth of theatre companies including the Alliance Theatre and the Theatrical Outfit among many others. Opportunities for support include intramural research grants, summer funding, teaching release time, graduate research assistants, travel funds, and assistance in pursuing external funding.

The School of Music is part of the College of the Arts, which was established in 2016 and also includes the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design, the School of Film, Media & Theatre, the Center for Collaborative & International Arts (CENCIA), and the Center for Educational Partnerships in Music. In addition to offering some of the university’s most popular majors, the college connects faculty and students with Atlanta’s thriving arts scene and booming film and music industries.

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining an active research/creative agenda, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Applied Trumpet, recruiting and retaining excellent students, and participating in service at the school, college, and university levels.


Essential Qualifications

  • DMA in Trumpet Performance (or equivalent)
  • Distinction in artistic accomplishment in orchestral, modern, collaborative, and solo performance
  • Successful teaching experience at the collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Positive, demonstrable record of recruitment and retention at the collegiate level
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to contribute fully to the artistic and intellectual life of the School of Music


  • $65,000
