Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The School of Health and Human Performance services students who major in Public Health (BS); Exercise Science (BS); and Athletic Training (BS). We also have two master’s programs: (1) MS with a concentration in Health Promotion or Human Performance; and a (2) Master of Arts in Teaching – Health and Physical Education. We anticipate transitioning the BS in Athletic Training to a MS in Athletic Training beginning Summer 2018. We also house multiple minors in Public Health; Physical Education; Outdoor Education; and Global Health Studies.

Primary Purpose of Position

1. Teach courses in both undergraduate and graduate programs: e.g., Community Health; Medical Terminology; Epidemiology; Methods of Health Promotion; Stress Management; Substance Use and Abuse; etc. 
2. Assist the coordinator and other health faculty with seeking accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for the BS Public Health; 
3. Engage in scholarship and community service appropriate to the discipline; 
4. Serve on school, college, and university committees as assigned.

Serve as a professional mentor for students in the major.

Job duties performed for the above function

Demonstrate expertise in conducting scholarly inquiry and dissemination of such inquiry through peer reviewed journals, edited books/chapters and peer reviewed presentations at conferences, etc.

Publications (editing, citations); presentations at professional meetings; current work in circulation or in progress; grants received or applied for; membership and participation in professional organizations; other professional development activities.

Committee membership; programs directed and advised; participation in special programs or projects; other service to institution.

Minimum Requirements
Proposed Minimum Experience/Education

Minimum of a terminal degree from an accredited institution and qualifications and experiences commensurate with assistant professor rank.

Doctoral degree in Public Health preferred, but a doctoral degree in a related health field will be considered.

Familiarity with online synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.

Department Required Skills

An understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning.

Ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Ability to work independently and self-directed.

Preferences
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Doctorate of Public Health preferred.

Strong communication skills.

Ability to work independently and be self-directed.

Successful higher education teaching experience.

CHES certification is desirable.
