Position Title:  Assistant Professor Tenure-Track (English)

The selected candidate will be responsible to:

  • Provide 27-32 semester hours of instruction per academic year in English teaching primarily first-year composition as well as developmental writing and some sophomore-level literature courses.  May teach college courses in one of the Atlanta-area high schools as part of the state’s Dual Enrollment program.
  • Provide related service to the college, as well as curriculum and student support and advising
  • Contribute service to the university and community
  • Maintain required office hours and provide academic advising for students
  • Work effectively and professionally with colleagues on departmental, college and university committees


Education:  PhD in English, composition and rhetoric, or closely related field required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach a wide range of writing and English courses at the college level, especially first-year and developmental writing
  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods
  • Ability to relate to a diverse student population and facilitate student learning
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with instructional technology
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management, organizational skills and knowledge of current pedagogical trends in the discipline

Experience:  Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level is desired.  Experience teaching online courses helpful.

Work Hours:  Position may require non-standard hours (including day, evening, on-line, hybrid, weekend and/or other campus locations)

Salary: $42,082-$47,082 (10 month salary range)
