The Department of Psychological Science is committed to supporting faculty who deliver high quality teaching, create research opportunities, and foster close student-faculty mentorship. We offer enthusiastic and innovative instruction by professors who teach courses in their specialty areas. Because this passion for psychology is sustained through active research and professional growth, the department is dedicated to supporting outstanding research facilities and continued faculty development. Our curriculum encourages undergraduate students to fully explore the multi-disciplinary field of psychological science. Through our teaching, research, and mentorship we instill respect for multiple viewpoints and approaches, while inspiring intellectual curiosity and personal growth.

The College: Encompassing the arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, sciences and mathematics, fine and performing arts, and select professional programs, the College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the university’s four colleges. Approximately 185 full-time faculty in twelve departments teach approximately 3,000 students with arts and science majors. Most of the core curriculum and many service courses to the other colleges are taught by Arts and Sciences faculty.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Department of Psychological Science at Georgia College invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2018. The area of specialty for the position is open (e.g., quantitative, industrial-organizational, health, developmental, clinical, community, social, or other relevant areas), but a pedagogical and scholarly emphasis in applied science is preferred.

The candidate will teach 12 course hours per semester to include an undergraduate research lab, an introductory level course focused on the development of critical thinking skills, research methods, psychological statistics and/or courses in their area of interest. Preference will be given to applicants whose interests and areas of expertise will enable the department to expand the breadth of courses and research opportunities available to students. Ideal candidates will also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and mentorship in the liberal arts tradition. A doctoral degree (or A.B.D. if the degree will be conferred within the first year of service) is required and teaching experience in the aforementioned areas is preferred

Teaching is a primary responsibility of all Georgia College faculty. Specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following. Department Chairs assign courses, days and class times. Teaching assignments can vary with need and vary over time.

The candidate will teach 12 course hours per semester to include an undergraduate research lab, an introductory level course focused on the development of critical thinking skills, introductory psychology, research methods, psychological statistics and/or courses in their area of expertise. Preference will be given to applicants whose interests and areas of expertise will enable the department to expand the breadth of courses and research opportunities available to students. Ideal candidates will also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and mentorship in the liberal arts tradition.
