Position Summary

is seeking a qualified special educator to teach various courses in the program for special education teacher candidates. Applicants must have experience in teaching online and hybrid course formats. This is a part-time, non-tenure track appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education. The successful candidate will be expected to begin January 1, 2018. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs. In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.

Required qualifications: A successful candidate will have master’s degree or specialist degree in Special Education and at least three (3) years certified teaching experience in Special Education. Other required qualifications include the ability to: design and teach courses in the area of special education.
Desirable qualifications: A doctoral degree in special education. Previous experience supervising or observing teachers, teacher candidates or other programs in Special Education. Knowledge of the K-12 schools in Clayton State University’s service area (mainly: Clayton, Henry, Fayette, South Fulton and DeKalb counties). Experience as a Middle or High School Special Education Teacher. Ability to teach in an online format.

Minimum Education Requirements

The candidate must have a master’s degree in Special Education or related field with 18 graduate hours of course work in Special Education.

Responsibilities Summary

• Teach 2 courses in the field of Special Education per academic semester
• Teach courses in an online format with knowledge in both synchronous and asynchronous course formats
• Communicate with program coordinator in special education about teacher candidates’ needs in the field
• Assist program coordinator in special education with course scheduling
• Teach online and hybrid course formats, and work with cooperating teachers and administrators.
