Job Summary

The Grady College of The University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time Academic Professional, to begin July 2017.

The individual hired for this position oversees industry, client, project, and technology operations of the New Media Institute, working with both internal and external audiences to bridge the gap between industry and academia. In addition to these responsibilities, this individual will teach 5 courses each academic year (August-July) in the New Media Institute.

The New Media Institute (NMI) is an interdisciplinary unit of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, dedicated to the exploration of the creative, commercial, and critical dimensions of innovative digital media technology. Through the NMI’s New Media Interdisciplinary Certificate Program, students of any major can develop new media expertise. Students are required to complete 17 credit hours to earn the certificate. Certificate courses are hands on and highly interactive, providing students a foundation of skills and knowledge that prepare them to respond to changes in technology throughout their careers. The NMI is located on the fourth floor of the Journalism Building with a great view of UGA’s historic North Campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D in Mass Communication; applicants with an M.A. in Mass Communication or closely aligned field and at least one year relevant professional experience will also be considered. Demonstrated excellence at helping manage a highly diverse, fast-paced and complex academic unit at the university level. Minimum of two years teaching experience at the university level. Large-scale video production and post-production experience. Must be able to teach and manage 2 to 3 courses each semester in addition to administrative duties. Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of instructional expertise in areas such as web production, graphic design, user experience design, photography, videography, drone technology, project management, product ideation, and client-relationship management. At least one year of teaching and curriculum development experience at both the undergraduate and graduate level. At least one year of experience with video capturing technologies including quadcopter rotary drones as well as 360 degree camera hardware. FAA-administered UAS remote pilot certification. At least one year of iOS development experience including ideation, production and preparation for AppStore release.
