The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Lecturer of the Undergraduate Professional Communications Program (UPCP).

We are seeking a dynamic individual who is invested in engineering education and experienced teaching technical/professional writing and presentation to university students.  This is an exceptional career opportunity for someone interested in contributing to the continuous growth and development of a discipline-specific writing program dedicated to empowering next-generation and this-generation engineering students with the communication skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.  We encourage applications from entrepreneurial-minded, results-driven individuals with an MA in technical writing, writing studies, or a related field who are looking for a non-traditional career path in an engineering-centric environment that offers intellectual, academic, and professional flexibility.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver highly effective, engineering-specific visual and multimodal communication instruction and resources while collaborating with the UPCP Director to advance the exciting and innovative work of ECE’s communication program.

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track academic position with appointment beginning in May 2017.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and Includes benefits.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities of the Lecturer include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating, managing, and teaching a junior-level communication course (ECE 3006) delivered in a highly individualized, out-of-classroom, innovative format for ECE students involved in co-curricular activities.
  • Co-teaching a required technical and professional communication course (ECE 3005) for ECE students.
  • Co-teaching a graduate-level practicum course (ECE 8901) for graduate teaching assistants.
  • Evaluating/grading engineering student documentation and presentations.
  • Integrating current research and best practices into engineering communication instruction.
  • Leveraging current instructional technology in classroom and online environments.
  • Assisting the Director with managing the day-to-day operations and activities of the ECE Communication Studio, which includes: training and supervising graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate tutors; conducting interactive workshops for students; coordinating events and activities designed to promote the UPCP, its services, and student success.
