Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Academic Specialist, Technical Director. This is a non-tenure track position on a yearly renewal contract; instructs up to two technical theatre courses each semester and oversees all activities including but not limited to two theatre productions each semester; maintains all theatrical equipment such as lighting, and sound systems. Builds sets for theatre season, creates and maintains scenery build, paint and installation schedules; stage rigging engineering, installation and operations. Oversees safety for shop and productions; supervises student crews. Attends all production and design meetings, design runs and technical rehearsals; trains back stage crew. May be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Master of Fine Arts in Technical Theatre from an accredited university or college; three years technical theatre experience hanging lighting instruments, operating light and sound boards, and set construction. Three to five years technical theatre experience, college level instructor of record; carpenter certification, and inventory organizational skills preferred. Background and/or credit check may be required.
