Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for an Academic Advisor for the School of Business. This position is responsible for providing advising services to students in the School of Business. Preferred knowledge of admission, registration and degree program requirements; knowledge of academic standards governing the student population; knowledge of student recruitment and retention principles; knowledge of computers and job-related software programs, including the BANNER system; skill in decision making and problem solving; skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public; and skill in oral and written communication.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Evaluates applications to determine eligibility for admission.

  • Advises School of Business students about course requirements, pre-requisites, grades and graduation requirements.

  • Assists students in the development of comprehensive educational plans.

  • Refers students to other college resources as appropriate.

  • Obtains and manages statistical data to report on student success and retention.

  • Develops and implements advising materials.

  • Meets with students wishing to change majors to determine which courses will count toward the business degree.

  • Trains faculty in the advising process and in the use of related software.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field; and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.

 

SALARY:  Pay Grade 16
