The Center for Obesity Reversal at Georgia State University

Georgia State University (GSU), a leading public, urban research university invites nominations applications for the tenure eligible position of Professor and Director of the Center for Obesity Reversal (COR). The University’s grant and contract awards portfolio exceeds 120M annually, primarily from federal agencies with NIH being the lead funding source (http://research.gsu.edu/). Founded in 2013, the Center promotes research that addresses the growing obesity epidemic in the U.S. and around the world. The COR is a University-level Research Center.

The Center’s mission is to promote interdisciplinary, collaborative research focused on neural and physiological mechanisms controlling obesity and associated disorders, such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, chronic inflammation, and cancer.

The Center has 13 primary and associate researchers from diverse backgrounds who are focused on studying obesity and related diseases. The faculty members come from several departments at Georgia State University, including Biology, Neuroscience and Nutrition, as well as the Institute for Biomedical Sciences. The combined research efforts of the primary faculty are supported by grant funding from federal and health voluntary organizations.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, a distinguished record in biological or biomedical research that includes a history of significant external support, demonstrated leadership and administrative skill. It is anticipated that the Director’s tenured appointment will be in Biology, Neuroscience or Biomedical Sciences. He/she will also report to the Vice President for Research. The Director will be expected to provide visionary direction for the Center’s core faculty, as well as foster collaborations and partnerships that are both internal and external to the University. The Director needs to be innovative and be able to work collaboratively with faculty and administrators to promote the underlying mission of the Center.
