The Department of Electrical Engineering in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Information Technology invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Networking and Cybersecurity/Communication Systems.

Within this setting, the Department of Electrical Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate courses in support of over 430 students. Undergraduate electrical engineering courses are offered in the areas of communication systems, control systems, embedded systems and power systems for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree. The BSEE program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The College currently offers a Master of Science in Applied Engineering (MSAE) degree with a concentration in Electrical and Electronic Systems. Active research areas in the department include robotics, sustainable energy, antennas and wireless propagation, power systems, communications and signal processing, optical communication/networking, and biomedical engineering.

The department mission is consistent with the college and university missions in that it bridges theory with practice, extends the learning environment beyond the classroom, and offers a student-centered environment enhanced by technology and experience with private and public partnerships.

Position Description. Reporting to the Electrical Engineering department chair, the Assistant Professor requires an ability to teach electrical engineering courses, conduct research in the area of expertise, as well as support the service mission of the department. The faculty member in this position is required to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (lecture and laboratory); engage in academic advising; assist in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan; pursue scholarly work, including research in the field, grants, and publications; participate in service on various committees; and participate in professional activities and organizations. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong research program in his/her field of specialization, which includes seeking external funding. Areas of particular interests are: (i) Large networked systems security including data-center and cloud-based cyber-infrastructures and the Internet of Things (IoT) networked interdependent cyber-physical systems; (ii) Device security with a focus on devices connected to wireless/wired networks; and (iii) Communication systems, Ad hoc networks, or any other closely related fields. The position is an academic (9/10 month), tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

• A doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related field by August 1, 2017

• A master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering or closely-related fields

• Effective English communication (oral and written) skills

• Ability to develop and teach courses

Preferred Qualifications:

• A doctorate with a concentration in Networking and Cybersecurity/Communication Systems or any other closely related field

• Relevant industrial experience

• Research experience in networking, cybersecurity, or communication systems

• Previous full-time teaching experience

• Record of scholarship and participation in professional activities

• Experience in teaching capstone courses

• Experience with ABET accreditation and/or continuous quality improvement
