The Georgia Regents University (GRU), Department of Health Management & Informatics (HMI), invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant/associate professor rank in the College of Allied Health Sciences.

The Georgia Regents University includes nine colleges and schools with nearly 9,000 students, over 1,000 full-time faculty and nearly 7,000 staff. It houses the nation's eighth-largest medical school, the state's sole dental college, and an integrated health system. The mission of the university is to offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, student development, and continuing education; to conduct research and creative activities; to provide services that enhance the intellectual, cultural, environmental, and economic development of the metropolitan region; address national and international issues in key areas; and establish GRU as a major presence, and contribute to the global and local community.

The candidate will join the Department of Health Management & Informatics, which includes one of the nation’s oldest online undergraduate programs in Health Information Administration (HIA), post-baccalaureate certificate in Health Information Administration, and a graduate program in Public Health with concentrations in Health Informatics, Health Management, and Environmental Health. The candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate and/or graduate students, conduct quality research in one or more of the preferred content areas, and obtain externally funded research.

The candidate will also be a founding faculty for the comprehensive health informatics research program. The program will explore a wide range of health informatics subject areas, from applied individual to population health care sciences. The program’s research will focus on improving clinical care delivery and health care outcomes. The research topics will include patient engagement and empowerment, prevention and management of chronic health conditions, healthy aging, telemedicine and telerehabilitation, mobile health, data mining and knowledge discovery in large heterogeneous clinical and administrative datasets, predictive modeling and electronic phenotyping, personalized health, EMR usability and health information exchange. The program will also explore data-driven methods to develop healthy community models and other population health initiatives. In addition, data driven models will be utilized to provide optimized decision-making and the development of real-time applications to improve health care quality and promote patient safety. Other areas will include the use of social media and human–computer interaction to improve the customer experience and outcomes.

A doctoral degree from an accredited institution in one of the following areas is required by the start of the faculty appointment:

1) A doctoral degree in Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Services Administration, or a related health discipline from an accredited institution, and industry or academic experience in healthcare informatics research.

2) A doctoral degree in Management Information Systems, Applied Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Epidemiology or a related information technology discipline from an accredited institution, and industry or academic experience in healthcare informatics.

3) Medical doctorate, from an accredited institution, with industry or academic experience in healthcare informatics research.

Candidates with documented research experience and/or track record in health care industry are encouraged to apply. A record of grant applications and/or funding is also favored. Additional preference includes experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, particularly in an online setting.
