Georgia Regents University Educational Innovation Institute (EII) has been developed to champion Excellence and Innovation in health sciences education and educational scholarship that enhances learning and develops educational leaders locally and globally. More specifically, the EII seeks to:

  1. Inspire and facilitate the framing of educational problems and challenges to meet the needs of today’s health professions education learners and educators.
  2. Support the professional and educational leadership development of health professions educators.
  3. Provide health professions educators with time-tested and/or innovative processes, technologies, or select content to address today’s educational problems and challenges.

The EII is co-led by one MD and one PhD educator. We seek applications for an educational researcher who can advance our educational discovery mission through innovation and creativity as well as the application of scientific principles to medical education. Although the position will be open in terms of area of expertise, preference will be given to those with research experience in educational assessment and evaluation and evidence of the ability to mentor researchers across the learner continuum.  It is expected that 50-75% of the time will be directly related to EII research related activities and 25-50% time will be devoted to teaching and/practice within that person’s area of expertise, dependent upon their educational background and experience.


  • Doctoral degree in education, psychology or related field or Doctoral Degree in a basic science or MD with a documented history of advanced training and experience in educational research within the health professions.
  • Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research design and methods
  • Experience in educational research project management
  • Knowledge of one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS or SAS)
  •  Excellent written and oral presentation skills


  • Familiarity with psychometric and measurement principles desired
  • Evidence of responsibility in assessment, educational research or program evaluation preferred
  • Evidence of background facilitating the development of educational researchers across the learner continuum
  • Evidence of a funding track record through educational grants and/or contracts


  • Work with the larger EII Team to advance GRU's national reputation in educational discovery in all programmatic areas via national publication and presentation
  • Facilitate discovery by providing measurement and design expertise
  • Work with faculty and students to support their educational research needs including faculty development programs that evolve from the EII
  • Incorporate current knowledge into curricular programs with an evaluative component
  • Develop an independent stream of research relevant to personal interests and complementary to EII programs
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other schools within GRU and externally in the Southeast region and nationally
