Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at the University of Georgia’s University Health Center seeks two full-time, culturally competent psychologists to provide comprehensive psychological services for the university community.  Each position will be asked to help fulfill the CAPS’ mission through clinical service with an emphasis in an area of specialty.

Position 1 – Eating Disorders & Body Image Emphasis: For this position, approximately forty percent of the work and responsibilities are focused on working with students experiencing eating disorders or body image concerns. In addition to the responsibilities below, the candidate will be an active member of the Eating Disorders Multidisciplinary Treatment Team, may serve as coordinator of the Team, and will provide consultation specific to eating disorders and/or body image concerns. This is a full-time 12 month, benefited position.

Position 2– Behavioral Health or Formal Assessment: For this position, approximately forty percent of the work and responsibilities are focused on either behavioral health interventions or formal assessment and report writing for a variety of issues (e.g., ADD, personality, risk assessment, verification of disability for academic accommodations). In addition to the responsibilitees below, the candidate will either provide innovative behavioral health interventions or routinely conduct assessments synthesizing objective and subjective information in a formal report as well as provide consultation to faculty and staff in the candidates area of specialty. This is a full-time 12 month, benefited position.

Other duties for all positions include but are not limited to:  Providing diagnostic assessment and triage, individual (short-term) and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, psychotherapy supervision, and limited after-hours on-call services. Desired qualifications include experience with: phone screening/triage, treatment of disorders typically seen in the college population, management and treatment of eating disorders or substance abuse disorders, formalized psychological assessment (ie. ADD/ADHD, personality assessments etc.), experience working in multidisciplinary settings, and experience with an electronic health record. The new hire will offer psychological services to adults of all ages, presenting a broad spectrum of psychological problems and developmental concerns; conduct psycho-educational outreach programs and workshops; and provide consultation on psychological issues and concerns to members of the university community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Individuals must be licensed as a psychologist in the state of Georgia by the date of employment
  • Early and mid career candidates are encouraged to apply. Applicant who completed all postdoctoral hours may apply as an Advanced Clinical Resident and will be expected to become fully licensed as a Psychologist in Georgia within the first year of employment.
  • Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program 
  • Completion of an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship
  • Knowledge, special interest and preferably a minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working with individuals psychologically similar to the college population, experience or interest in preventative mental health outreach programming, and experience working with student athletes/consulting with Athletic Departments
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong capacity for teamwork and flexibility
  • Commitment to working with a culturally diverse population

Salary Range:  52K – low 60K (Advanced Clinical Resident: 47K)
