The Department of Education and Teacher Preparation at the College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction to begin in August 2018. Dynamic applicants who are interested in working with teacher education faculty in a collaborative environment to prepare candidates for initial teacher certification are encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants must have successful experience in teaching at the P-12 level, undergraduate teaching, advising, field experience supervision, and curriculum development. Candidates applying for this position will be informed of current evidence-based practices in teacher education, innovation in curriculum development, assessment for continuous improvement initiatives, professional development school models, and performance-based formative/summative evaluation strategies. Qualified applicants will also be expected to collaborate with faculty across the Education Preparation Provider (EPP) to make connections across courses within the designated initial teacher preparation program. This position is a full-time tenure-track appointment starting Fall 2018. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

Essential Duties

Responsibilities will include the following:
• Teach undergraduate level curriculum planning and/or instructional methods courses for prospective elementary, middle, and/or secondary education teachers
• Supervise teacher candidates at the elementary, middle and/or secondary level
• Contribute to the collegial community of the department to establish and maintain excellence within and across initial teacher preparation programs
• Advise undergraduate students majoring in elementary, middle, and/or secondary education
• Scholarly activities including, but not limited to, research, course development, publishing, conference presentations, or grant procurement as aligned to the Boyer Model of Scholarship
• Provide service to the department, college, and partnering school districts, as applicable

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Minimum qualifications require the applicant to hold a terminal degree in curriculum and instruction (or a closely related field) with 3 years of teaching experience at the elementary, middle grades, secondary, and/or college level. Candidates must also have excellent written and oral communication skills and exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a record of success in teaching at the middle and/or secondary level. Additionally, preference will also be given to candidates with areas of specialization in history and/or literacy. The preferred applicant will document experience supporting in-service or pre-service teachers with curriculum development/use of assessment data to make informed instructional decisions and/or coaching to integrate evidence-based practices in the P-12 school setting. Additionally, the preferred applicant will exhibit a commitment to student learning and teacher candidate success and have a working knowledge of standards-based instruction and assessment.
