Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Responsible for providing a robust campus activities program through the development of collaborative relationships with university departments, offices, and student organizations while concurrently fostering an environment that cultivates the creation of new student organizations to which enhances an engaging and transformative campus life experience.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Assistant Director of Student Involvement is responsible for providing a robust campus activities program through the development of collaborative relationships with university departments, offices, and student organizations while concurrently fostering an environment that cultivates the creation of new student organizations to which enhances an engaging and transformative campus life experience. The Assistant Director assesses student program interests and create, develop and plan cultural, educational, social, and wellness recreational programs for the campus with intentional learning outcomes. Oversees the registration and renewal process for all registered student organizations (RSOs) and serves as the primary administrator for the student organization management system on campus (OrgSync). Provides leadership development and training opportunities to student leaders and advisors. Serves as the general advisor to the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and to SGA’s United Students’ Council (USC)(student organization presidents). Develops and implements a comprehensive advertising and marketing plan for campus activities including the management of the physical and software systems running Bobcat Vision (campus-wide LCD monitor system).

Responsible for providing a robust campus activities program through the development of collaborative relationships with university departments, offices, and student organizations while concurrently fostering an environment that cultivates the creation of new student organizations to which enhances an engaging and transformative campus life experience. Oversees the registration and renewal process for all registered student organizations (RSOs) and serves as the primary administrator for the student organization management system on campus (OrgSync). The Assistant Director has delegated responsibility to formulate, affect, interpret, and implement policies within the Student Organization Handbook and the Advisor’s Manual. Ensures the mitigation of risk by ensuring that health and safety guidelines are maintained related to student and campus activities. Conducts contract negotiations, review contracts to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines (local, state, and federal guidelines) and binds the university to significant financial obligations. The Assistant Director ensures good stewardship of allocated student activity fees and those under the Assistant Director’s advisory responsibilities. This includes financial accountability for budgeting of allocated funds and purchasing and procurement of programming items.

Serves as the general advisor to the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and provides oversight of the planning of retreats, budgeting, scheduling of events, event management, elections, transitioning of new officers, and administrative coverage at large events sponsored by this group. Serve as the general advisor to SGA’s United Students’ Council (USC). Specific emphasis placed on the position is advising, directly and indirectly, 190+ student organizations and developing the student leaders involved with these organizations. In addition, the Assistant Director is expected to work closely with faculty and administrators serving as student organization advisors to build strategic collaborations that advance student learning.

Assesses student program interests and create, develop and plan cultural, educational, social, and wellness recreational programs for the campus with intentional learning outcomes. Provide leadership training opportunities to student leaders and advisors. Oversees the university’s various Bobcat Marketplaces (student organizational fairs) and the department’s annual student organizational awards ceremony (Bobcat Awards). Represents the department at campus-wide events such as New Student Programs (Fallfest, Springfest, Summer Orientations), Senior Send-Off, and other university events. Lead special activities that are a part of campus-wide programs such as Week of Welcome, Homecoming, Midnight Breakfast, and other educational programming initiatives in collaboration with other departments at the university when applicable.

Develops and implements a comprehensive advertising and marketing plan for campus activities including the management of the physical and software systems running Bobcat Vision (campus-wide LCD monitor system), social media communications, OrgSync, and web pages relevant to promoting campus activities, student organizations, and campus programs.

Coordinates and assists in development initiatives for the department. The Assistant Director is responsible for sound decision making and accountability for areas of oversight. Implements special projects and research related to involvement on campus. Serves on university committees as needed.

Master’s degree

Experience with program development and program evaluation; ability to demonstrate creativity
Knowledge and experience with theoretical and practical applications of experiential learning related to leadership in higher education or transferable setting. 
Strong knowledge of student development and leadership development theories
