Be part of the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design’s growing faculty at Georgia State University, an enterprising R-1 university located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, a vibrant international city in the Southeast. The Academic Professional in Photography will play a central role in the School of Art & Design’s contributions to Georgia State’s strategic goals of highlighting the arts and media as vital to the quality of all major cities and demonstrating that students from all backgrounds can achieve academic and career success at high rates. Opportunities for support include but are not limited to summer funding, teaching release time, travel funds, and assistance in pursuing external funding.

The School of Art & Design is part of the College of the Arts, which was established in 2016 and also includes the School of Film, Media & Theatre, the School of Music, the Center for Collaborative & International Arts (CENCIA), and the Center for Educational Partnerships in Music. In addition to offering some of the university’s most popular majors, the college connects faculty and students with Atlanta’s thriving arts scene and booming film and music industries.

The School of Art & Design seeks an exceptional educator, lab administrator, and artist who will join our team of vibrant, creative professionals. This position reports directly to the Director of the School of Art & Design and will run all of the analog and digital photography labs. Some key responsibilities include managing area budget, finances, and cash flow; supervising Graduate Lab Assistants and undergraduate student assistants; and overseeing area facilities, maintenance, and lab communication. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to proper lab safety and procedure, a broad and interdisciplinary approach to teaching photography, and a dedication to artistic practice and student learning. This position will also have service responsibilities on various Area, School-, College-, and University-level committees and has a teaching load of 3/3.

Essential Qualifications

  • MFA in Photography or related field
  • In-depth knowledge of managing analog and digital photographic facilities
  • Ability to teach in all areas of photography studio practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience
  • Administrative and photographic lab experience

This is a full-time appointment with an anticipated start date of January 6th 2020 

Salary: $50,000
