Working Title Accountant II (Grants & Contracts)
Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Accountant II, Grants & Contracts Accounting. This position performs various general accounting duties including reconciliation, journal entry preparation and reporting. Works with PeopleSoft financial system and Microsoft Office to generate complex reports and process information; approves grant related expenditures. Verifies accuracy and validity of posting and accounting transactions; prepares entries to correct accounting errors, performs analytical reviews and submits reports as required or requested. Maintains detail trial balances; assists supervisory personnel with monthly and year-end closes. Monitors and maintains accurate records, databases and other documents to support accounting transactions. Works with project managers, grant sponsors, other employees in the Comptroller’s office and other parties related to grants and contracts. Submits reports to and bills State, Federal, Foundations, and other grant/contract providers; complies with all applicable University, USG, State of Georgia policies, procedures, and contractual obligations. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; competitive benefits program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Must have a minimum of two years of experience in general accounting; governmental and/or grants accounting experience preferred. Strong analytical and technical skills, the ability to work independently required; with professional communication skills to work with employees of the University and external parties; background and/or credit check may be required.
