Working Title Accountant III - General Ledger & Payroll Liabilities
Job Summary

Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Accountant III General Ledger & Payroll Liabilities. This position performs a high level of accounting operations: analysis and reporting; primarily involving general ledger journal entries, travel and check audit, payroll accounting, and high level accounting processes. Position is responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, voucher auditing, payroll accounting, serving as backup to the payroll specialist, and administering the Perkins Loan and (SHIP) Student Health Insurance Programs. Works with PeopleSoft financial system and Microsoft Office on a regular basis, as well as with senior management, other employees in the Comptroller’s office, University, and external stakeholders. Prepares specialized accounting reports required by the Board of Regents; verifies accuracy and validity of posting and accounting transactions. Completes the monthly reconciliations. Performs online banking services and GL processes in support of Treasury Accountant; submits positive pay files, fund transfers, posting and cash receipts. Reconciles and adjusts benefited payroll agency accounts, retiree and COBRA accounts, and other payroll agency funds as required. Reviews entries in the financial system for compliance with GAAP, USG, and University policies and procedures. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; competitive benefits program.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required; an advanced degree is desired. Must have a minimum of five years of experience in a complex accounting environment; governmental accounting is desired. Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to work independently; and professional communication skills to work with employees of the University and external parties required. Must be able to perform high level accounting processes in an advanced general ledger system (PeopleSoft) and be proficient in the use of Excel; background and/or credit check may be required.
