Position Title Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Tutoring Coordinator
Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for tutoring students in the ACE, assisting with test proctoring, and for coordinating the work of tutoring staff.

Major Duties

• Tutors EGSC students in various collegiate academic subjects
• Schedules and provides tutoring for prospective students in preparation for placement exams
• Organizes and coordinates educational tutoring programs
• Organizes academic learning communities and other educational programs on campus
• Assists in proctoring exams in the ACE – especially mid-terms and final exams- in the absence of the ACE Testing Coordinator
• Assists preparing reports on the operations of the Academic Center for Excellence
• Co-operatively oversees the scheduling and work of tutoring staff
• Assists advisement staff as needed
• Directs students to other college services and personnel as appropriate
• Provide coverage for evening/extended hours during the Spring/Fall semesters as needed
• Performs related duties

Knowledge Required by the Position

• Knowledge of EGSC and ACE policies and procedures
• Knowledge in various academic subject matters including but not limited to Mathematics (Algebraic and Statistical concepts), and English (Writing concepts)
• Knowledge of entrance exam/testing requirements
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions
• Skill in the development and delivery of instruction
• Skill in oral and written communication

Supervisory Controls

The Assistant Director of the Learning Commons assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines

Guidelines include the college catalog and directions from the Assistant Director. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

Complexity/Scope of Work

• The work consists of related duties in tutoring students and test proctoring in various academic areas
• The necessity of helping multiple students simultaneously contributes to the complexity of the position
• The purpose of this position is to develop impactful academic tutoring programs, while tutoring students and supervising student workers. Success in this position contributes to the success of East Georgia State College students

Contacts

• Contacts are typically with co-workers, faculty, and students
• Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons

Physical Demands

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping
• The employee occasionally lifts light objects
• The work is typically performed in an office and tutoring center
• The work will occur during regular and some evening/extended hours during the Fall and Spring semesters, and will occur during regular hours during the Summer semesters and periods in-between semesters

Supervisory and Management Responsibility

This position has functional supervision over part-time tutors.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with an Associate’s degree or higher
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one year

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a bachelor’s degree.
