The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Education. This position is located on the Armstrong campus, but may require teaching in the other campuses.

Within this setting, the Department of Music offers student-centered degree programs at the bachelor's and master's level. Students are mentored by a faculty of dedicated teacher-scholars, who are nationally and internationally known in their fields of expertise.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor of Music Education requires: 1) teaching courses in music and music education for majors and non-majors; 2) supervising student teachers; 3) planning and supervising field experiences for music education majors; 4) serving as liaison with the College of Education; 5) maintaining an active research agenda (including publishing in peer-reviewed journals); 6) actively recruiting potential music majors; 7) attending area and department meetings; 8) serving on juries; and 9) other teaching duties as assigned by the Chair, based on the candidate's strengths and departmental needs. The position is an academic (9/10 month), tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in music, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in music, by August 1, 2019
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years of teaching in public school settings
  • Ability to teach a secondary music area (e.g., theory/aural skills, applied music, etc.)
  • Experience with student teachers
  • Familiarity with edTPA
