Job Description: 

The candidate will be supporting the Aerospace Systems Design Lab (ASDL) within the School of Aerospace Engineering in a variety of capacities mostly related to acoustic assessment. The candidate will be enhancing the noise modeling capabilities of ASDL to support the various research activities throughout the lab. In order to achieve this, the candidate must be familiar with noise source modeling and propagation order to understand better the noise characteristics of aircraft systems.  The candidate will also support research engineers with the noise modeling tasks required by sponsored projects. The candidate will also be performing research to better understanding of aircraft noise and noise modeling and to educate both students and other staff members about aeroacoustics. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enhance noise source and propagation modeling capabilities including maintaining and improving current noise source and propagation execution scripts
  • Develop noise models for future vehicles
  • Enhance Noise-Power-Distance curve modeling
  • Assist with ASDL research contracts that require noise modeling
  • Provide aeroacoustics training to students
  • Research aeroacoustics to gain a better understanding of the topic and provide insight to other members of ASDL
  • Advise other research engineers and sponsored projects on acoustic matters

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ph.D. with minimum 3 years of full time relevant experience or M.S. with minimum of  4 years of full time relevant experience
  • Work well in a team setting
  • Experience with NASA’s Aircraft Noise Prediction Program (ANOPP), both ANOPP 1&2, is very desirable
