Nature of Work

The School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time Tenure-Track position in Environmental Science within the department of Natural Sciences. This appointment is expected to begin August 1, 2018. This position is an academic year (10 month) appointment.

Essential Duties

The candidate will have a multidisciplinary background in environmental and earth sciences, with experience studying biogeochemical processes in the coastal zone. Responsibilities include developing and teaching courses to support a new Environmental Science major recently approved by the Board of Regents, including introductory level courses in environmental and earth sciences and upper division courses in GIS, Hydrology, and Geochemistry, with the possibility of other electives as needed. The selected candidate will be expected to participate in advising students and in departmental and college service. The candidate will be expected to have a commitment to excellence in teaching, a commitment to professional development and scholarship as defined by Boyer (1997), and to serving students in a collegiate setting. The candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with others and be willing to teach both day and evening courses at the Brunswick campus or Camden Center location as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Earth Science or related field from a regionally-accredited institution by the start date
  • One year experience teaching undergraduate courses in a variety of fields related to Environmental Science

Preferred Qualifications and Training

  • One or more years’ experience advising students and mentoring undergraduate research
  • One or more years’ experience studying biogeochemical processes in the coastal zone
  • Experience using and teaching GIS
