Job Summary/Basic Function:
 
Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology in the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Health Professions. Atlanta Metropolitan College currently serves approximately 3000 commuting students on its beautifully landscaped campus which is located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. 
 

This Assistant Professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology is a full-time, tenure track, ten-month faculty position, which reports to the Dean of the Division of Science Mathematics and Health Professions. We seek faculty members who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity, with a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, advising and grantsmanship that will enhance the work of the Division and attract and retain a diverse student body.  

 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
A Ph.D. degree in Biology, (or a closely related STEM field) with eighteen graduate semester hours in upper level biology and/or zoology courses. The successful candidate will have a background in animal physiology and teach both lectures and labs in Human Anatomy and Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, Evolution, Field Ecology, and Vertebrate Physiology and participate in our sequence of undergraduate research capstones courses. 

The successful candidate should possess the ability and desire to provide quality instruction to students with diverse backgrounds, exhibit a spirit of collegiality, and demonstrate willingness to effectively collaborate and cooperate with other members of the faculty, staff, and administration. The applicant must be an excellent instructor, and should be familiar with curriculum development, alternative learning styles, classroom technologies, and distance learning. 

The selected candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of appointment and continue working legally for the term of employment. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required. 

 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
Preference will be given to applicants with collegiate teaching experience and expertise/experience in on-line instruction, and/or certification in a related field. We are especially interested in candidates who have created or contributed to programs that aim to increase access and success of underrepresented students and/or faculty in the sciences, and/or have detailed plans to accomplish such goals. An established research skills training agenda and readiness to develop and engage undergraduate students is preferred.
