The Department of Art of the University of West Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Graphic Design beginning August 2018.

Position Description/Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have an MFA in graphic design, demonstrated knowledge of graphic design history and contemporary issues in graphic design, skills in traditional design principles, typography, print design, interactive/web design, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and experience in curriculum development. The candidate should also be actively engaged in creative design research. Industry experience is strongly desired. Fluency in Mac OS, Adobe CS, and industry-standard print and interactive/web design software is required. The position includes teaching all levels of graphic design from beginning-to-advanced typography and print design. We are seeking an educator who will encourage conceptual and aesthetic innovation through process development in a liberal arts environment, while informing students about practical client and industry considerations.

Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years teaching experience beyond graduate level. The candidate must demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarship and teaching at all levels of the curriculum.

Additional responsibilities include student academic advisement, support of the ongoing internship program, promotion of the Department at all levels, and co-managing a computer lab, equipment, inventory, ordering, and work-study students. Requirements outside of the department include ongoing research and service to the institution.
