Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, the Assistant/Associate Professor of Elementary Literacy Education will collaborate with faculty across the Educator Preparation Provider, teach elementary literacy education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise and assist with field experiences, develop and maintain an active research and scholarship agenda (including an appropriate level of publications and conference presentations), model effective teaching practices with diverse populations, use instructional technology effectively, and participate in program development and coordination. Some teaching will be conducted at off-campus sites. This is a 9-month, tenure track position.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Three or more years of teaching at elementary and/or early childhood levels in diverse settings.
  • Experience or expertise in critical literacy.
  • Experience or expertise in multiple literacies, including writing for elementary children, digital literacies, and/or assessment.
  • Experience teaching at the university level.
  • Experience teaching and developing online courses based on an articulated philosophy of teaching and learning.
  • Experience in program development and coordination.
  • Experience with teacher performance assessments, such as edTPA. 
  • Scholarship, service, and/or experience in diverse settings.
  • Doctorate in Literacy Education or closely related field or foreign equivalent. ABDs close to completion will be considered. Doctorate must be earned by August 1, 2018. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered. 
  • Minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in literacy education.
  • At least three years teaching experience with students in P-5 schools.
  • Commitment to working in an environment that values diversity, inclusion, and collaboration.
