Assistant Professor in Visual Rhetoric

The Department of Communication at Georgia State University, College of Arts & Sciences, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Visual Rhetoric to begin Fall 2018, pending budgetary approval. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for scholarly research and publication and established record of excellence in teaching courses related to the critical study of public images. This can include the study of iconography, the role of aesthetics in the production, mediation, and reception of public communication, among other approaches to Visual Rhetoric that study the composition and circulation of images which inform cultures. The ability to connect one’s research to the department’s Center for Global Information Studies or its trans-cultural violence initiative is a plus.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach in the Department's undergraduate and graduate programs, with documented competence to teach across the rhetoric curriculum. The Department of Communication at Georgia State University offers undergraduate degrees in journalism and speech, M.A. degrees with concentrations in mass communication and human communication, and doctoral degrees with a focus on either media & society or rhetoric & politics.
