Job Description Summary

The East Georgia State College Department of Housing and Residence Life is seeking interested applicants for the position of Residence Life Coordinator(RLC). The RLC will assume evening (4pm-Midnight, M-F) administrative responsibility for a residential apartment community of 412 residents, which entails on-site required duty coverage. While the typical work week will consist of 40 hours of working time, flexibility will be required in terms of how that coverage is achieved in support of departmental objectives to include weekend or late night coverage. The RLC will provide leadership input at departmental and College levels to include assisting with staff hiring/training, student leadership development, academic initiatives, alcohol education, multicultural education, orientation, health and wellness, etc. The Residence Life Coordinator will be responsible for all paperwork necessary to facilitate the evening activities of the Bobcat Villas communities, including roommate agreements and mediations, room condition reports, emergency contact cards, visitation logs, health and safety inspections, etc. The Residence Life Coordinator will also be responsible for educational and social programming efforts within the residential community in conjunction with the student staff in support of our residential curriculum.

Major Duties

• Facilitates evening and weekend programming initiatives for residential students in conjunction with resident assistants.
• Implements and upholds Housing and Residence Life policy and procedures
• Responds appropriately to student concerns and mediates roommate conflicts
• Responds to emergency and crisis situations
• Utilizes conflict resolution and mediation skills to assure a productive community
• Provides guidance to Resident Assistants and assists with delivering Resident Assistant training programs
• Assists with move-in and move-out procedures, including camps/guests and conferences
• Provides day-to-day, evening management of housing complex, including all necessary paperwork
• Participates actively in the primary duty coverage rotation as needed to accomplish department objectives
• Provides appropriate collegiate co-curricular programming for student residents
• Participates actively in the accomplishment of institutional and Office of Housing and Residence Life goals through projects and committee assignments
• Performs special projects and related duties as assigned by the Director of Housing and Assistant Director of Housing

Knowledge Required by the Position

The successful candidate should possess excellent managerial, leadership, and communication skills; outstanding collaborative and motivational skills as well as strategic planning skills; ability to act independently and to react appropriately in a crisis situation; ability to provide interpretation and enforcement of policies and procedures; and knowledge of current practices in retention issues. Computer skills, such as a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and email, as well as the ability to readily learn and navigate new computer programs in support of position, are essential. This position will require regular interaction with residents during evenings. Knowledge of college on-campus housing policies and procedures. Successful candidate will be able to effectively establish rapport with residential students and be an advocate for student needs within the facilities.

Supervisory Controls

The Director of Housing assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

• The work consists of varied duties in the coordination and implementation of the residence life programs for the college

Physical Demands

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping
• The employee may be required to move light or moderately sized objects
• The work is typically performed in an office
• Emergency circumstances may require use of stairs

Supervisory and Management Responsibility

This position will not supervise but will closely collaborate with student workers to accomplish departmental objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field (ex: education, counseling, psychology, business, etc)
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one year
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in the field of education, student affairs or enrollment services
• Previous experience living in a campus residence hall
